LOT Polish Airlines is setting its sights to East Asia after expanding its routes to Seoul and Tokyo and there is some rumors that it will soon fly to Bangkok and Shanghai. This 2017, the flag carrier of Poland increased its flight frequencies to Japan and South Korea and the airlines’ strategy is to use its Warsaw hub as the gateway to Europe.
The airline is selling Warsaw as a Central European hub instead of just being an Eastern European destination. The airline even adjusted its connection times as it targets East Asian travellers with onward flights to other European destinations.
LOT Polish Airlines is using its Boeing 787 Dreamliners to serve both Tokyo and Seoul. The flight is so popular that it increased it frequency in Seoul from 3 times a week to 5 times a week. Tokyo flights also increased from 3 to 4 times a week. The Dreamliners are highly advanced aircrafts and it gives LOT Polish Airlines passengers better comfort. This is a welcome news for this 10 hour flight from Tokyo Narita to Warsaw.
Each seat in the economy class is fitted with personal screens. The seats are surprisingly comfortable and seat pitch is okay. Cabin service is average. Cabin attendants are wearing dark colored uniforms which appear to be midnight blue complemented by the stylish and colorful neck scarves.
In some of the shorter routes, LOT Polish Airlines charges for food and you can actually pre-purchase it online. In this long flight however, food and drinks are of course complimentary. There’s a selection of continental and Asian choices in the menu with alcoholic drinks available as well as the usual fruit juices and sodas.
Below are the photos of the Asian dish which consists of vegetable salad, bread, rice, chicken and some steamed vegetables. Food quality is average.
A light lunch is served prior arrival Warsaw. This flight is called LO080 and departs Tokyo at 1105 hrs and arrives Warsaw at 1440 hrs. Any passenger with connecting flights can easily catch the evening schedules for other European cities. LOT Polish Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance and is code-sharing flights will All Nippon Airways (ANA). Polish and European travellers can seamlessly connect with other Japanese or even Asian cities using this code-share scheme.
Overall, this flight is average. The flight schedule favors many travellers especially those who are connecting for somewhere else. The aircraft choice is also great. Boeing 787 Dreamliners provides great comfort for long haul flights. Food can definitely be improved as well as the cabin service (could be more friendly).
If LOT Polish Airlines will expand more its routes especially in the Southeast Asia, it could pose a serious competition for the Gulf Carriers. This flight is something that Japanese or Asian travellers should try. It’s not bad but it could be better.
